The Drowned World

The event was a collaboration between Wet Sounds and local sound artists who transformed the Riverside swimming pool, Chelmsford, to produce an experience that defies easy categorisation. The event was both an underwater disco and an art gallery with soundscapes both above and below the surface. The immersive audio-visual performance was inspired by JG Ballard's novel The Drowned World.
Both the Drowned World promotional video and news report were produced as part of my collaboration with the Essex Book Festival 2020. I had the utmost pleasure of interchanging creative juices with festival organisers to outline their event calendar, improve social media, and boost student engagement.
As a writer, you spend countless days and nights drowned in researching and fact-checking tasks, arranging sentences for them to be accurate, and accumulating a sense of aesthetics, emotion, and information value. Sometimes, it certainly is the loneliest undertaking of them all.
However, while producing content for the Essex Book Festival, I never felt isolated, and the community was supportive at every stage, sentence, frame, and question. I believe that as a writer, my goal is to maintain transparency and mutual support with the brand. In turn, we're awarded beautiful connections and successful advertising campaigns.
